Creating Better Outcomes for Every Child
Professional Overview
Understanding Students With Emerging or Hidden Needs
A SENbetweener is a young person aged 4–19 who experiences significant barriers to learning, engagement, or well-being but does not yet have an official diagnosis, EHCP, or formal SEND label. This includes learners with:
- ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)
- ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
- PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance)
- SLCN (Speech, Language, and Communication Needs)
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
- EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)
- Undiagnosed learning differences such as processing or memory challenges
These learners struggle to access the national curriculum or feel fully supported in mainstream settings. We understand that behaviour is never 'naughty' — it is simply how a neurodivergent child communicates unmet needs.
